PDP in desperate moves to stop Senator Godswill Akpabio from defecting

PDP national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, is currently locked in a marathon meeting with Senator Akpabio, the immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom state over reported moves by the lawmaker to defect from the PDP.
The former governor hinted that he might defect when he told supporters at a mega rally that a political party is just a vehicle for winning election thereby sending warning signals to the main opposition party (PDP).

The senator is reported to have fallen out with his successor, Governor Udom Emmanuel and the PDP is making effort not to lose him. A PDP source told our correspondent that the national chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus, was locked in a marathon meeting with Akpabio in his Asokoro Abuja home at the weekend over the issue. The senator is the incumbent Minority leader in the senate.

There are reports that the fallout between Akpabio and his governor followed the alleged unwillingness of the Governor Udom Emmanuel  led administration to open the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Ikot Ekpene which Akpabio was said to have built and furnished.  Another issue was the said failure of  governor Udom Emmanuel to complete a portion of the Uyo-Ikot Ekpene road also started by Godswill Akpabio’s Administration.

The senator was reported to have said he would emerge as the winner in whichever party he decided to pitch his tent with in the 2019 elections.
