Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Buhari Gets UN Appointment.
Aisha Buhari, Nigeria’s first lady, has just been appointed by the Joint UN Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) as UNAIDS Special Ambassador for the Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV and Promotion of Treatment for Children living with HIV in Nigeria.
The Communications and Global Outreach Officer, UNAIDS Nigeria, Charles-Martin Jjuuko, made this known in an announcement issued in Abuja.
Aisha Buhari Gets UN Appointment Officially On the 19th March.
According to him, the Executive Director and Under Secretary-General of the United Nations, Michel Sidibé, is to issue the formal appointment to Mrs. Buhari on Monday, March 19 in Abuja.
Charles-Martin Jjuuko, said the selection of the wife of the President was in recognition of her passion for the promotion of the rights of vulnerable women and girls in the country.
He, however, noted that in her new role, Mrs. Buhari will advocate for increased access to antenatal care services, HIV testing for all pregnant women and their linkage to adequate care.
