REPORT ON BAUCHI STATE OF HEALTH – PIONEERED BY HER EXCELLENCY HAJIYA HADIZA ABUBAKAR ON BREAST FEEDING

Wife of the Bauchi state Governor, Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar has advocated exclusive breast feeding in the first six months of child birth for the health benefit of children and their mothers.

Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar gave the indication at the official inauguration of the world breast feeding week in Bauchi.

She called on husbands to accord their wives all the support needed in their quest to breast feed their children exclusively for the first six months of birth.

The State Commissioner for Health Dr. Zuwaira Ibrahim Hassan said exclusive breast feeding cannot be overemphasized hence the need for stakeholders to live to their responsibility to achieve healthy family life.

The State Executive Chairman Primary Health Care Development Agency, Adamu Ibrahim Gamawa commended World Health Organisation, WHO, United Nations Children Fund, UNICEF, and other development partners for their support in the health sector and urged them to maintain the momentum.

Bauchi State WHO Coordinator, Dr. Adamu Ningi said the week is being organized by the World Alliance for Breast Feeding Action, WHO and UNICEF to promote excusive breast feeding for the first six months of life.

The UNICEF Representative, Salamawit Negash reaffirmed the organization’s continued support to the state in the areas of health care, hygiene, water and sanitation, education  among others.

World Breast Feeding Week is being celebrated in the first week of August every year, but was delayed in the state due to political activities that saw the last Saturday’s bye election into the Bauchi South Senatorial District.
