No fewer than nine persons held hostage by Boko Haram terrorists were rescued by troops on Operation Lafiya Dole in Borno state on Friday, June 1. Three terrorists were also killed by the troops during a clearance operation at Jaje, Angwa Audu, Major Ali, Dabu Abdullahi, Dabu Wulkaro and Gori Jaji villages. This was disclosed in a statement signed by the director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Texas Chukwu. According to him, those rescued included two aged men, two females and five children. They are currently receiving medical attention at a military facility.

The troops seized some food stuff concealed in holes and several livestock rustled by the terrorists. Chukwu appealed to members of the public to report any suspicious person or activity to law enforcement agents. It was earlier reported that five soldiers of the 271 Task Force Battalion deployed in Operation Lafiya Dole in Borno state lost their lives due to the Improvised Explosive Device ‎set up by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno state. They were on clearance operation along Pridang-Bitta in Gwoza local government area. Their remains were promptly evacuated to the 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital.

A statement signed by Brigadier General Texas Chukwu added that the troops fought through an ambush. “In the fire fight that ensued, the gallant troops fought through the ambush, they neutralised several Boko Haram terrorists, while others fled with gunshot wounds,” the statement said.
