
2018 Eid-el-Kabir celebration
The federal government has declared Tuesday, August 21, and Wednesday, August 22 as public holidays to celebrate the 2018 Eid-el-Kabir.
BREAKING: SARAKI DECLARES FOR PRESIDENCY
The minister of interior, retired Lt-Gen Abdulrahman Dambazau, made the declaration on Thursday, August 16, in Abuja in a statement issued by Mohammed Umar, the permanent secretary of the ministry, the 2018 Eid-el-Kabir celebration is going to be observed nation wide as reported.

While wishing Nigerians a happy Eid-el-Kabir celebration, Dambazau enjoined the citizens to use the period to embrace the virtues of love and sacrifice for the unity and development of the country. He urged Nigerians both at home and abroad to support the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari in its determination to foster a peaceful and united Nigeria during this 2018 Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

Meanwhile, Nigerian governors have said they were not elected into office solely for the purpose of paying salaries but also to provide good roads, electricity, education and other necessary amenities.
The governors made the statement under the auspices of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) when reacting to the clamour on the implementation of a new minimum wage. The chairman of the NGF, Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara state, said it is regrettable that state governments have been limited to only paying of salaries while other sectors such as health, electricity, education, among others, are not given the same attention, The Cable reports.

He said governors do not have the money to pay the N65,000 minimum wage which the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is proposing.
